Energy
Sustainable energy has been of great importance to Trix right from the start in 2004. Throughout the years, we have continuously implemented changes and optimizations:
- Eneco has been our energy supplier for years, guaranteeing us 100% green electricity.
- Since 2024, 431 (!) solar panels have been installed on the roof of Trix, generating no less than approximately 160 MWh annually.
- Replacement of the HVAC system control, allowing the building to be heated and ventilated more efficiently.
- Replacement of old and defective heating boilers with new, high-efficiency boilers with lower capacity.
- Multi-year project to switch to functional LED lighting throughout the entire building.
- All stages have been fully equipped with LED stage lighting for years.
- Installation of heat pump boilers for sanitary water.
In 2014, a comprehensive energy scan/audit was conducted in collaboration with the City of Antwerp's Energy Unit. This led to a genuine partnership with the city to make ongoing improvements to our building (under concession). For instance, in the near future, we are looking into the installation of batteries to store the solar energy generated during the day and use it during the various evening events.

Evolution of actual energy consumption (gas + e.g., entire site, in kWh)
From 2011 (start of energy measurement) through 2025, gas consumption decreased by +/- 60% and electricity by +/- 50%. By using energy more intelligently (the right consumption at the right time) and through investments over the years, we systematically reduced consumption. Moreover, if you take into account that the total number of activities at Trix has nearly doubled during the same period, you can conclude that energy consumption has been significantly reduced.
