The Ocean
Following the tour for their album Holocene, the lineup of The Ocean changed completely. Founder Robin Staps brought together musicians from six different countries, which is immediately clear on their twelfth album, Solaris.
The foundation remains familiar, heavy post-metal, but the band's sound has broadened. At the iconic Hansa Studios in Berlin, they added classical keys like grand piano and celesta, with Thorsten Quaeschning (Tangerine Dream) contributing on synths. The Ocean has also added two new vocalists: Enrico Tiberi handles the powerful vocals, while Lane Shi (Otay:Onii) brings a more experimental edge.
The band drew inspiration from historical explorers' diaries and the sci-fi film Solaris, resulting in a versatile album spanning nearly seventy minutes.
