Toubab Bougnoul

Clattering percussion, hypnotic rhythms, high energy dance circles, group choreos, blasting 808s and polyphonic choral singing, like a kind of European version of an African tribe.

Toubab Bougnoul (pronounced Toebab Boenjoel) is a collective of Afro Europeans,  that aims to bring a dynamic mix of clattering percussion, hypnotic rhythms, high energy dance circles, group choreos, banging 808s and polyphonic choral singing. Throughout the show the bodies of the performers merge and the individuals merge with light and projections as dance partners and all move together as one organ. The collective is like a European version of an African tribe. We return to certain elements of traditional dance and percussion rituals from the different cultures the group members come from, with the ambition to give them a new meaning. In this way we try to make contact with our roots and the spirituality of these rituals in a way that shows respect for the original traditions, feels authentic but that we can fully appropriate.
